this course is NOT for:

• anyone who’s ONLY looking for a shortcut. spoiler: there’s no such thing as a shortcut to good design! sure, this course is packed with tips, techniques and things that will put you on the fast track, but while we have certainly streamlined things for you there’s no magical button or way to learn the skills and be successful without putting in the work.

LCL academy is an 8-week program but can be extended or stopped and started as needed to complete at your own pace if you find yourself unavailable certain weeks—once the modules are released, they're yours to complete as you're able to! 

but as far as actually getting through the content, it depends a LOT on your schedule and how quickly you're able to work through and absorb the material. generally, it will take most students a few hours, 3-4 days each of the weeks of the program to get through the lessons, really absorb the material, and put it into practice. 

the most time-consuming parts are the hands-on design projects. this module will spill over into future weeks as you build your portfolio or product line. there's no need to rush! the projects are simply made available during this module and should be completed thoughtfully and at your own pace to create the very best work you can.

that said, everyone works differently so time will vary per project, but you should plan to allow yourself a few hours minimum per project. (if you love to design, time will FLY by!) 

please note: this is only an estimate to get through the course itself. it is an ongoing process to perfect your skills, and it will take lots of practice to become proficient in the design programs and for your skills to become second nature.

yes! since this is an e-course all lessons will be presented online. you'll also need a computer to complete the hands-on projects and follow along in the lessons. personally, i’m a #macgirl through and through, so that is what i recommend. but, if you have a PC that is totally fine, too! FYI, the keyboard shortcuts, references, etc., that are provided within the lessons are mac-specific, but there are PC equivalents that are usually quite similar.

nothing fancy here, but yes, adobe creative suite apps are required for this course. if you're serious about being a designer, you'll use these apps every day and they will basically become an extension of you. so you'll more than get your money's worth! 

the programs that will be needed are: 

• indesign 

• illustrator 

• photoshop 

• acrobat

great question! the course structure and content are the exact same for both paths. the lessons are just slightly tweaked in the second half of the course where the major design projects, and business modules are tailored to your chosen path. 

for instance, in the FREELANCE path, your projects will focus on typical corporate projects (ads, logos, direct mail, etc.), whereas in the PRODUCT LINE path, projects would focus on typical gift + lifestyle product design (stationery, home goods, etc.).

this is really up to you! but, the answer lies where you have the MOST interest—do you see yourself working with corporate clients or other small businesses creating brands and working on marketing projects and ad campaigns? or do you see yourself creating gift, stationery, or other products to sell, say, in your own online store? 

keep in mind, no matter which path you choose you will learn the same material, but the lessons will be tailored to the path selected. you can eventually dabble in both areas once you’re up and running, but you’ll need to pick one focus for the course. 

so, i would ask yourself: what type of business am i most interested in and want to launch with and spend the most time on IN the course? 

yes and no. if you sign up for the wrong path or change your mind before the course starts we can definitely switch you over. however if the course has begun we cannot change you over at that point.
